On behalf of Taiwanese Scholar Association in St. Louis (TSA-STL, 聖路易 台灣學者協會), we would like to welcome you to join the 2019 TSA-STL Symposium “Broaden Vision and Innovate New Technology-To fellowship together, to share together and to grow together: 擴大眼界,創新科技-合作、分享、成長” at Washington University Medical Campus in St. Louis, MO on April 6th 2019.
The purposes of the symposium are to provide opportunities for intellectual conversations, networking, and career development via learning the precious lessons from the speakers/panelists and networking with the participants. This year we have invited Drs. 高銘憲醫師 and 陳建寰醫師 as keynote speakers who will share their life wisdom with you. Six young professional scholars will present in the scientific sessions. These speakers are experts in their fields, 胡貽霖(老人醫學),孫敏瑜(神經科學),馮卓健(歷史),陳之翰(經濟),江玫曦(社工)and 陳佳欣(化學). The workshop program will be led by faculty members 張素馨,林倢伃,顏柏尹,金聖智 and industry specialists 周家宏,徐晧珩. They will share their precious experiences about how to find a dream job and work in academic and biotech/pharmaceutical industry.
The symposium is organized by enthusiastic organizing committee members and financially supported by generous sponsers. We welcome everyone to join us at the symposium. This symposium is open to public and free of charge, and provides light breakfast, lunch and refreshments. For lunch preparation, we would appreciate you to register online before April 2nd 2019.

Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houstons
Dr. Jiun-Haw Lee is the director of the Science and Technology Division at Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston. He was a professor in Graduate Institute of Photonics and Optoelectronics and Department of Electrical Engineering, National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan before the secondment by the Ministry of Science and Technology of Taiwan. Dr. Lee’s research interests include display technologies, organic light-emitting diode, solar cells, optoelectronic devices, and bio-sensors. He has published 1 book, 2 invited book chapter, more than 100 referred journal articles, more than 300 conference papers, and more than 50 patents. He has also served as Editor-in-Chief of Journal of the Society for Information Display, and Associate Editor of IEEE Photonics Journal. He is also an Asian Committee member, Display Week, SID, and Conference chair of “Advances in Display Technologies” in SPIE Photonics West. Dr. Lee received the B.S.E.E., M.S.E.E., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering in 1994, 1995, and 2000, respectively, all from National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan.
Dr. Ming-Shian Kao graduated and received his medical degree from National Taiwan University School of Medicine in 1961. He completed postgraduate residency training program in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Barnes Hospital, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. He further subspecialized in gynecologic oncology at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario Canada, an affiliate of Ontario Cancer Foundation. He then returned to St. Louis in 1971 and joined the faculty of Washington University School of Medicine, where he went on to received tenure as a full professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He was one of the first physicians in St. Louis to be certified by the American Board as a sub-specialist in Gynecologic Oncology.
During his 23 years at Washington University, he served many roles, including, director of fellowship training program in gynecologic oncology, division director of gynecologic oncology, and Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology service at Barnes West County Hospital. He was selected as the “Best Teacher” by Washington University resident physicians on multiple occasions. He also received one of the highest accolades from the graduates of the Washington University OB/GYN residency program by having his name inscribed on a “Memorial Wall” located in front of the St. Louis Maternity Hospital Building. This award is selected by graduates of program and given only once every five years.
He then moved to St. Louis University School of medicine in 1993 as tenured professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology. In addition to his teaching, research, and patient care responsibilities, he has held various positions at St. Louis University. His administrative duties included division director, chief of service, and chairman of the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. For decades, he has consistently been named as “Best doctors”, “top Doctors”, and “Best Oncologists” by national organizations.
In addition to his busy academic life at St. Louis University, he also took time to establish Gynecologic Oncology training program in Taiwan under National Health Research Institute. He directed and trained first group of local physicians to provide better care of gynecologic cancer patients in Taiwan. He initiated and formalized sub- specialization in gynecologic oncology in Taiwan. Later, he also took on the primary responsibility as the director of preparatory office, in establishing MacKay Memorial Medical School, a brand new medical school in Taiwan under the auspices of Presbyterian Church.
